Large octagonal coffee table with Posidonia slate top

Available and in very good condition with minor signs of use

This exceptional 1970s coffee table is a true celebration of natural history and sculptural design. Crafted entirely from solid stone, it carries a striking presence that feels both timeless and grounded.

The octagonal tabletop is made from rare fossilized Posidonia slate, formed around 180 million years ago. Its richly textured surface reveals the delicate imprints of ancient marine life, including numerous Posidonia becheri shells embedded throughout the stone. Adding to its uniqueness, a subtle imprint of a small ammonite can be discovered—an extraordinary detail that connects the piece directly to the prehistoric world.

The base is equally compelling: a solid, triangular form that provides a bold architectural foundation. Its weight and simplicity perfectly balance the intricate, organic patterns of the top, creating a harmonious contrast between geometry and nature.

Every mark and fossil tells a story, making this table far more than a functional object—it is a one-of-a-kind statement piece, where design and deep geological time meet in a truly remarkable way.
