Mid-Century CU01 sideboard by Cees Braakman for Pastoe

Available and in very good condition with some age related signs of use

This refined mid-century modern sideboard, model CU01, was designed by Cees Braakman for the renowned Dutch manufacturer Pastoe. Exemplifying Braakman’s progressive vision and Pastoe’s commitment to functional elegance, the design balances architectural clarity with the warmth of natural materials.

Crafted in richly grained teakwood, the sideboard displays a beautifully balanced composition of surfaces and volumes. The warm tone and fine texture of the teak lend the piece a timeless sophistication, while the clean lines and carefully considered proportions reflect the rational, modernist ideals of the period. The cabinet doors and upper compartment are subtly integrated, with minimalist black handles that create a restrained yet distinctive visual rhythm.

The sideboard rests on a slender, black minimalistic steel frame, which elevates the cabinet both physically and visually. This open base gives the piece a sense of lightness and modernity, while also emphasizing its architectural form—a hallmark of Braakman’s designs.

The CU01 is a superb example of Dutch mid-century design, combining practical storage with sculptural simplicity. Its understated elegance and high-quality craftsmanship make it a versatile and enduring piece, equally suited to modern and classic interiors.
