Jonas Hidle ‘‘Najade’’ green bubble glass pendant

Available and in very good condition with minor traces of wear consistent with age and use.

This rare and elegant pendant lamp is a refined example of Scandinavian lighting design from the 1960s, produced by the Norwegian manufacturers Høvik Lys & Hadeland Glassverk and designed by Jonas Hidle. It reflects the period’s balance of craftsmanship, material experimentation, and understated luxury.

The lamp is distinguished by its rich green bubble glass shade, whose subtly textured surface catches and diffuses light in a soft, atmospheric way. Inside, a metal inner shade provides functional light control, directing illumination downward while preventing glare. This inner shade is not hidden but deliberately expressed: it is secured by visible metal clamps evenly spaced around the rim of the glass, a detail that adds both structural clarity and a discreet industrial character.

Suspended from a brass chain and ceiling canopy, the pendant has a warm metallic contrast that complements the deep green glass. The conical form is simple yet confident, allowing the quality of the materials and the precision of the construction to take center stage.

As a whole, the lamp embodies Jonas Hidle’s thoughtful approach to design—where function, form, and honest construction are inseparable. It works equally well as a statement piece over a dining table, in a hallway, or as accent lighting, and stands today as a timeless representative of mid-century Norwegian modernism.
