Bolide wall or ceiling lamp by Hermian Sneyders de Vogel for Raak
Available and in good original condition with some traces of wear
The ‘Bolide’ wall or ceiling lamp, designed by Hermian Sneyders de Vogel for Raak Amsterdam in the late 1960s/early 1970s, is an iconic example of sculptural Dutch lighting design. Composed of layered, curved metal slats arranged in a circular formation, the lamp has a harmonious, almost organic presence. Its form resembles a blooming flower or a celestial object, perfectly echoing its name: Bolide, a term for a bright meteor.
When illuminated, the Bolide transforms into a graphic light sculpture. The slatted construction diffuses the light softly outward, creating a dynamic play of shadows and highlights on the surrounding wall or ceiling. This atmospheric lighting effect has made the piece a favourite among collectors who appreciate both its functional quality and its artistic character.
Typical for Raak’s design philosophy, the Bolide combines simplicity with bold visual identity. The lamp’s clean geometry, refined craftsmanship, and clever use of metal give it a timeless appeal that fits effortlessly into mid-century, space-age, and contemporary interiors alike.
